You then have to devise your own instructions, after testing and validating that they work

Experience is all you need! Once you start working, you start understand better how things work and what you need to do! And if you don’t know, there is always someone who can give us a hand!! Asking questions is the best thing you can do. The more you ask, the more you will know!

That’s a wonderful question! The best approach is to take small steps. observe and learn from those. Doing research and engineering is often like that, as we’re sometimes those who do the things for the first time ever, noone has done it before us, and thus there’s no manual. If you like experimenting, have you tried to build/do someting without a manunal?

I don’t have much more to add from what others have answered. But I remembered asking myself the exact same question when I was younger. I always thought only genius could become engineers. But it’s not the case, even the best scientists ask questions and Google terms there’re not familiar with 😉

      Google!!!

A big part of engineering and any job is knowing when you dont know the answer and knowing how/where to find it. Think along the lines of spelling you know you can use the dictionary or ask your teacher right ? if I’m asking why somethings not working (and I dont know the answer from experience/what ive already learned) I’m sure someone else before me has already asked the same question or if not something like it so….. I google my problem and usually theres an answer.

If I specifically need a manual for how something works there also usually a copy of it somewhere on the internet so id google it…. manual for henry the hoover…. then Ill get the information
